Idaho Business Review recently listed some of the more common benefits that come along with strong employee engagement, as well as the dangers of having low levels of motivation and morale throughout the workforce. According to the news provider, enhanced quality of work, efficiency of operations, safety of employees and decreased absenteeism are all commonly seen by businesses that focus on meeting the demands and preferences of their employees. 

The source pointed to the thoughts of Gallup Research chief scientist Jim Harter, who believes that an engaged employee is far more valuable than one who is not, regardless of the other characteristics at work. He also stated that some rewards programs and other initiatives to stimulate engagement are ill-advised, leading to poor returns on investment. 

"Many organizations measure either the wrong things, or too many things, or don't make the data intuitively actionable," Harter explained. "Many don't make engagement a part of their overall strategy, or clarify why employee engagement is important, or provide quality education to help managers know what to do with the results, and in what order."
