Employee recognition can help businesses grow

Employee reward and recognition programs use two basic strategies to increase engagement and inspire workers to excel.

Employee reward and recognition programs use two basic strategies to increase engagement and inspire workers to excel. The reward component offers incentives to motivate employees to reach their goals and meet deadlines or milestones. Adding a little personal reward for accomplishments can help team members to remain focused on their objectives and stay ambitious even if they would otherwise lose sight of the endpoint.

The recognition component, however, is also important. With peer recognition as well as acknowledgement from supervisors, this sort of program can help to forge a stronger sense of community and give workers a sense of how their contributions make a difference for others and the company at large. According to Small Business Trends, recognition in the workplace is the subject of a new book by CEO Zane Safrit. The book, entitled "Recognize THEM!: 52 Ways to Recognize Your Employees In Ways They Value," details the importance of acknowledgement and offers strategies for reaching out to workers in this way.

The book suggests gestures such as celebrating workers' birthdays and ensuring that managers know their team members' names, the source explained. In addition to such methods, companies can also implement employee reward and recognition programs, taking advantage of technology that helps them to put engagement and motivation at the center of their business operations.
