Make recognition programs all-inclusive [VIDEO]

While it's a fairly common business practice, some companies may be getting it wrong when it comes to employee recognition programs.

While it's a fairly common business practice, some companies may be getting it wrong when it comes to employee recognition programs.

According to the staffing agency Robert Half International, organizations should have a formal rewards program in place in order to make sure the awards are meaningful and all-inclusive.

Companies need to first define their performance targets and qualifying criteria.

Next, they should design their own program to ensure that everyone is eligible for formal recognition. And they should make sure that excellence is what is actually being rewarded, otherwise employees may stop going above and beyond if they see that mediocrity and a job well done are recognized equally.

A formal points-based rewards system is also a great way for companies to individualize their programs so that workers can pick a prize that's meaningful, as well as motivational.
