A number of new studies have shown that rewarding workers for a job well done is a great way to keep them motivated and engaged.

A number of new studies have shown that rewarding workers for a job well done is a great way to keep them motivated and engaged.

But an interesting thing also happened to one company when it started offering a points-based rewards program – workers got healthy.

UnitedHealth in Minnesota implemented the program to help motivate people to make better decisions about their health. The program offers points based on goals and incentives and then lets workers choose a reward, such as discounts on workout gear and downloadable songs and other products, once that goal is reached

Dr. Philip Hagen of the Mayo Clinic said that he hopes more companies will learn that these types of programs can have a lasting effect. He said it's a great way for people to get healthy because clearly what many people have been doing up until now has not been working.
