Rewards motivate employees [VIDEO]

Traditionally rewards have been third or fourth on the list of what drives employee engagement.

Traditionally rewards have been third or fourth on the list of what drives employee engagement.

But now, a new survey has found a major shift in the office environment – noting that rewards are the biggest driver of employee engagement – and those rewards don’t necessarily have to be cold hard cash.

The Ceridian Pulse of Talent survey found that receiving compensation for going above and beyond was considered the number one motivator in engagement, followed by job recognition.

The survey found that today’s changing workforce demographic accounts for the sea change, with a majority of younger workers saying they prefer to be recognized by non-monetary rewards.

According to the survey, workers are happy to accept non-financial incentives such as additional paid time off, free meals, merchandise and tickets to sporting events or concerts.

Another idea is for companies to implement some type of reward program based on points…workers can then redeem those points for perks.

Bottom line, employees – especially millenials – want to know that their work contributed meaningfully to the company’s mission. It’s up to organizations to offer a rewards program that provides that kind of feedback on a consistent basis.
