Get employees excited about training with reward programs

To maintain consistency and see continual improvement in productivity, companies need to develop comprehensive training programs for their employees.

To maintain consistency and see continual improvement in productivity, companies need to develop comprehensive training programs for their employees.

Effective instruction ensures the quality of manufactured goods and help workers develop new skills that can boost their performance. However, training programs can be costly and time consuming. Managers need to schedule times for workers to attend classes, which takes them away from their regular duties. It may also be difficult to find a sufficient number of people available for training within a specific time frame. These challenges are a big part of why more organizations are moving to online training programs.

Online classes can save businesses between 50 and 70 percent of their training expenses, according to Smart Biz. Citing research from Training Magazine, the source noted that web-based courses can be more effective and easier to implement than traditional training programs. Employees can take the class at their own pace, which limits the drop in production usually caused by having large number of staff members out for training at the same time.

Because online courses can be updated and reused down the road to smooth onboarding processes or create a skill development program, companies can stretch their training budget considerably. However, with little direct oversight, it may be difficult to get workers to complete programs in a timely manner. Employee incentive programs can be used to encourage staff members to take online training classes. By recognizing those who have completed certification courses, the company can inspire other workers to explore their own development options.

Reward programs can be used to stress the importance of continual learning, building a corporate culture that pushes employees to pursue new opportunities to gain experience and develop skills. This will make the company stronger and better able to adjust to changing market conditions as workers will look forward to learning the new skills required to meet company goals.
