Workers appreciate holiday rewards

Companies will want to be careful about what they cut from their employee reward and recognition programs, especially during the holiday season.

Companies will want to be careful about what they cut from their employee reward and recognition programs, especially during the holiday season.

Workers like to receive gifts around the holidays to honor their hard work and contributions. According to the most recent Global Workmonitor from Randstad, 41 percent of Canadian staff members would appreciate a gift from their employers. More than four in 10 (45 percent) of Canadian respondents normally receive one.

These tokens of appreciation don't have to be large – even small ones can help boost employee morale and motivation, according to Hanna Vineberg, vice president for central Ontario at Randstad Canada.

"Employees enjoy holiday rewards and feel even more appreciated and motivated when they receive them," stated Vineberg. "This is positive news for employers still struggling in the tough economy, because it reveals simple ways that they can keep employees loyal and thereby maintain a productive and competitive business."

During the season, rewards can include extra days off, gift certificates for dinners and other outings or cards featuring a personal message.
