Companies can work with employees to change behavior

Employee reward and recognition programs can help companies both motivate workers as well as change their behaviour, transforming them into more productive individuals.

Employee reward and recognition programs can help companies both motivate workers as well as change their behaviour, transforming them into more productive individuals.

There are a number of factors that contribute to a successful incentives initiative, including winning over staff members' hearts and minds and providing them with support. This can be accomplished through communication, i.e. making it clear for employees to understand why change is needed and what they're working for.

Inspiring change should not be done in a heavy-handed manner, though. Employers will want to review their workers' "soft skills," including how workers speak with each other, do business and relate to customers, The Financial Post explains.

"A good starting point is to answer the question, 'What does excellence in the new behaviour look like?'" the news source writes. "Clearly demonstrating key indicators tells employees where to aim in terms that are specific and clear."

However, this shouldn't be a one-time process. For businesses to maintain this level of motivation, they will want to continue to review and change their rewards programs.
