New employees are crucial to overall worker happiness

Recent research has shown happy workers to be the most productive ones, inciting many firms to implement employee reward and recognition programs.

Recent research has shown happy workers to be the most productive ones, inciting many firms to implement employee reward and recognition programs.

Companies can increase the likelihood of such programs' success beginning with the hiring process, Business News Daily writes. When speaking with applicants, it's important for firms to be very clear and open about their expectations for positions.

"By the time we bring someone on we have had open discussions about what they'll be doing and they know why we are hiring them right from the get-go, which has a huge impact on employee satisfaction once they actually get to work," Jill Etesse, creative director for mobile development firm SmartyShortz, told the news source.

Clear communication should be continued throughout the onboarding process as well. Offering simple recognition such as praise during this period will help new employees feel valued and it will reinforce the things they're doing right, especially as this time can be one riddled with small mistakes.
