Use verbal recognition to boost employee engagement, loyalty

Companies are increasingly using employee rewards and recognition programs to unlock the secret to improving and maintaining worker motivation.

Companies are increasingly using employee rewards and recognition programs to unlock the secret to improving and maintaining worker motivation.

These initiatives are based on the idea that recognizing staff members who have put in the extra effort or reached a significant milestone not only boosts employees' self-confidence, but also creates better business results through fostering engagement.

Such recognition doesn't need to come in the form of monetary compensation, though. Verbal praise and ongoing feedback are simple and costless ways to recognize staff members and further a sense of momentum and purpose.

To accomplish the latter, firms will need to outline the firm's purpose for their workers. "Establishing your company’s vision and goals – particularly involving your employees in creating them – will motivate them to achieve these objectives and help them feel that they are doing something meaningful," Fast Company explains.

Senior personnel will want to keep in mind that staff members enjoy being recognized in divergent ways. While some will appreciate being praised in front of their peers, others may prefer a more discrete approach.
