Recognize employees on a daily basis to prevent motivation attrition

Maintaining and inspiring worker motivation is a necessary task for every company, and one that can be accomplished through employee reward programs and recognition policies.

Maintaining and inspiring worker motivation is a necessary task for every company, and one that can be accomplished through employee reward programs and recognition policies.

In the current uncertain economy, this task is of even higher importance, as many firms are asking staff members to put in longer hours. This can lead to employees feeling overworked and undervalued – a dreadful combination for companies.

Motivational speaker Bob Nelson suggests firms recognize stand-out staff members every day, rather than once a week or month, to prevent a plummet in engagement, the Buffalo Business Journal reports.

"Not at the end of the week, not at the end of the month, not when you're in a good mood, on daily basis, they recognize the importance of this daily activity. They act on it here and now," Nelson said of successful companies, according to the news source.

How companies choose to recognize workers varies depending on its culture and what employees value. This can range from physical rewards, such as dinners, tickets or events, to verbal accolades.
