Firms are increasingly concerned with motivating staff members in an uncertain economy. One key component to boosting engagement with employee incentive programs is by spurring excitement among workers.

Attention to driving the correct messages is key to inspring workers to changing the way they work. Whatever goal companies are attempting to reach, they should try framing the behavioral adjustments in a way that seems simple and straightforward.

Furthermore, changes should appear to be ones that may be accomplished by workers, rather than targets that are so far off they seem as if they will never be attained.

"For some employees it might be the effect on the company's profits, especially if their bonus depends on it. Or it might be that they feel it is purely the right thing to do," Oliver Rosevear, Costa's energy and environment manager, told Edie Net. "It's trying to find those right messages that can be used by the people pushing the initiatives to get those people engaged for the right reasons."

One technique businesses may employ to ensure their rewards initiatives are progressing is by establishing an incentives committee that talks to workers and fields their concerns.
