Companies should avoid pushing employees into wellness initiatives

A majority of companies are coming to the same conclusion – a healthy, active workforce equates to a progressing business model. However, to accomplish the former, many firms are integrating employee reward programs.

While implementing a health benefits program may have high upfront costs, many experts believe that the money saved on a healthier workforce will ultimately pay off.

Chris Rofe, a senior consultant of health and productivity at Buck Consultants, told Personnel Today that there's no doubting the correlation between employee wellness and happiness with productivity.

Ian Laws, corporate sales director at Jelf, agreed with Rofe, but cautions companies to be careful about pitching the program's sale to employees. "It's a pull not a push sell," Laws told the news source. "To be effective, it has to reflect the culture and setting of your workplace. For example a web portal may not be effective in a blue-collar environment."

Businesses should clearly enunciate the details and benefits of the program, and then allow employees to decide for themselves.
